IntroductionVisium Resources has been asked to identify qualified candidates for this Actuarial Analyst position. This position is a direct hire opportunity with option to work either fully on-site in Jacksonville, FL or fully remote.
Summary
Senior: This position provides support for performing actuarial analysis of client's rates, rating procedures and rating plans. Support for reserve calculations and procedures may also be required. The Senior Actuarial Analyst may provide technical assistance regarding actuarial matters to staff in other functional areas and work closely with actuarial consultants.
Intermediate: This position provides support for performing actuarial analysis of client's loss reserves. It also provides support for client' rates, rating procedures and rating plans. The Actuarial Analyst may provide technical assistance regarding actuarial matters to staff in other functional areas and work closely with actuarial consultants.
JOB DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Senior:

  • Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
  • Perform actuarial calculations to develop property and casualty rates that are sound and defensible.
  • Prepare rate filings for the Office of Insurance Regulation in compliance with filing requirements, including assistance in performing actuarial review and certification that filings are appropriate and consistent with applicable Florida statutes and rules.
  • Determine and define data needed from policy and claim systems and from catastrophe models for rate, reserve, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Conduct research and draft responses on questions and requests for information on various intermediate level actuarial matters.
  • Perform loss reserving calculations.
  • Perform ad hoc actuarial analysis on issues of intermediate complexity or difficulty as required.
    Intermediate:

  • Perform actuarial calculations to develop property and casualty rates that are sound and defensible.
  • Preparation of data for determining quarter loss reserves.
  • Prepare rate filings for the Office of Insurance Regulation in compliance with filing requirements, including assistance in performing actuarial review and certification that filing is appropriate and consistent with applicable Florida statutes and rules. Prepare supporting materials to substantiate insurance rates. Research and assist in the preparation of material to support rates and/or the rating process. * Conduct research and draft responses on questions and requests for information on various basic actuarial matters.
  • Perform ad hoc actuarial analysis on simple or basic issues as required. Provide support for ad hoc actuarial and data needs as they arise
    Qualified candidates would have the following:
    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Senior:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related subject) PLUS
  • 5+ years of experience in property insurance with focus on detailed statistical analysis. AND
  • Completion of at least five CAS (Casualty Actuarial Society) exams and actively pursuing an ACAS and two or more years of actuarial analyst or related experience OR Completion of at least four CAS exams and actively pursuing ACAS with a minimum of 5 years actuarial analytical experience and data mining experience.
    Intermediate:
  • Bachelor's Degree (actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related subject) PLUS
  • Completion of at least two CAS (Casualty Actuarial Society) exams and actively pursuing ACAS AND
  • One year of actuarial analyst or related experience AND
  • Prior intermediate level experience navigating the Internet and working with Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and SQ
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Senior:
  • Four or more years of actuarial analyst experience in property insurance
  • Knowledge and experience with client's business and data formats
  • Experience dealing with a regulatory body on property rate issues
  • Knowledge of catastrophe models
  • Understanding of property casualty insurance and ratemaking principles
    Intermediate:
  • Understanding of property casualty insurance ratemaking and reserving principles
  • Knowledge of catastrophe models
  • Experience dealing with a regulatory body on property rate issues
  • Two years of experience using detailed statistical analysis with focus on property insurance.
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Senior:
  • Fundamental knowledge of actuarial ratemaking principles
  • Fundamental knowledge of actuarial reserving principles
  • Knowledge of catastrophe models
  • Knowledge of Accounting Practices
  • Knowledge of Claims Practices
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment
  • Strong data mining skill
  • Advanced quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to design reports and information in such a way as to be meaningful to the recipient of the information
  • Ability to work in a team-based atmosphere as well as independently when required
  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft Office products including: Access, Excel, Outlook and Word
    Intermediate:
  • Basic understanding of rating concepts
  • Basic understanding of loss reserving concepts
  • High level understanding of Insurance activities outside of Actuarial Services
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment.
  • Basic data mining skills
  • Advance quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based atmosphere as well as independently when required
  • Ability to design reports and information in such a way as to be meaningful to the recipient of the information
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office products including: Access, Excel, Outlook and Word
