Records Technichian Your Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for all legal Release of Information requests including subpoenas. Responds to all Release of Information requests for medical records within 7-10 business days, following Department of Health Policies, procedures and Federal Law (HIPAA). Uses databases to input data as required Uses various office equipment including telephones, fax machines and copy machines Answers telephone inquiries related to Release of Information. Scans and imports all documents to the electronic health record (HMS) per established policies. Ensures that documents have been accurately scanned and imported. Double checks documents before scanning for accuracy. Uses progress notes to identify errors/deletions and to notify providers of the need to review a client's medical record. Receives, opens, sorts, and date stamps US and internal mail. Monitors fax machines. Answers the telephone inquiries related to Releases of Information and Medical Records in general and provides responses to internal and external clients Incumbent will also serve as a back-up to the admitting department. Orders supplies for the department when needed Attends staff meetings as required Attends training for personal and professional growth Meets annual training requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to prioritize work, identify changing priorities and adjust as needed. Ability to use multiple computer programs and software such as Microsoft office to retrieve and/or input data. Ability to use scanning equipment proficiently Ability to self-monitor work for accuracy and maximum productivity Strong internal and external customer service skills Ability to independently solve problems Strong verbal and written communication skills in addition to good listening skills Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others Knowledge of patient confidentially laws Ability to work with a diverse population Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness Qualifications: Minimum - At least 1 year experience working in a medical office setting At least 2 years of computer experience At lease 2 years experience working in a fast paces customer service position Preferred - At least 1 year experience working in a medical records department processing records for release.
