General Definition of Work:

Performs responsible professional work in the public library system; does related work as required. Work is performed under supervision of the Library Director. Includes oversight of full range of technical services including original and copy cataloging and materials processing. Supervises and evaluates staff; coordinates team of volunteers. Assumes management of daily operation in absence of Library Director. Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule which will include some evening and weekend assignments.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Responsible for the training, supervision, scheduling, evaluation, and ongoing development of part-time personnel.

Coordinates technical services functions. Shares responsibility for all Library technologies; liaises with City IT. Assists in circulation and patron services delivery; contributes to collection development and management; maintains records; prepares reports.

* Participates in strategic planning, policy development, and relevant budget proposals * Develops weekly staff schedules; assigns hourly circulation desk shifts to ensure coverage * Trains Library Clerks in circulation system and technical processing procedures * Organizes workflow to ensure that employees understand their duties and delegated tasks * Monitors staff productivity and provides constructive feedback and coaching * Evaluates part-time staff and produces annual performance reviews * Selects and acquires new library materials using a variety of professional selection resources * Performs or oversees all technical processes required to make library materials ready for patron access * Performs copy-cataloging; creates MARC records for select items * Verifies that imported bibliographic records are accurate and within designated parameters * Confirms receipt of new materials; evaluates and determines disposition of all donated materials * Assists with deselection and e-record maintenance * Oversees collection organization, periodic weeding, inventory and disposition of discarded materials * Shares responsibility for overall functionality of Library technologies and digital services * Participates in collection development and management of media collections and databases * Receives patron concerns and complaints and resolves those issues * Maintains active role in circulation services, technical assistance, reader's advisory, and reference services * Manages the Library Volunteer Program * Participates in programming as necessary * Collaborates with other libraries in the co-operative * Represents Library on PPLC Special Interest Group(s) as assigned * Leads special projects as assigned * Sustains mastery of all library/job related technologies * Serves as back-up for various library functions as needed * Performs related tasks as required
