MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

This position will serve as part of the maintenance staff primarily in the Mid County Center location, but will be on call to assist all centers. This position calls for a professional attitude and maintenance experience. This position will require you to work with vendors and to direct and monitor their work. Please note that this is an Internal Agency posting; only current Department of Health employees are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ability to make repairs to office equipment and use to hand tools to affect the repairs.
  • Act as a liaison with vendors in the repair and maintenance of our equipment at the Centers.
  • Recognizing items or equipment in need of repair or maintenance.
  • Developing a professional manner around staff as well as clients and build a good relationship with them.
  • Have experience with basic hand and power tools and the ability to use them in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain an inventory of repair parts and janitorial supplies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary for this position:

  • Knowledge of building maintenance principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to work with clients/staff and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to plan and evaluate services provided.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements

  • Valid Florida drivers' license, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • The knowledge of hand and power tools and how to use them safely.
  • The ability to maintain an inventory of parts and janitorial supplies.
  • Knowledge of HVAC to determine deficiencies, speak with vendors and to discuss repair options.
  • Ability to maintain a monthly preventative maintenance log.

Current State Employees - Salary for current employees is based on employee's current pay band/ paygrade.
