*POSITION DESCRIPTION*

*Title: Housekeeper (Part-time)*

*ABOUT THE MUSEUM*

The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is a new institution that opened on April 7, 2018. The 87,000 SF facility houses the significant collection of western and wildlife art collected by Tom and Mary James over the past 35 years. The facility includes 30,000 SF of gallery space, a 4,000 SF special exhibitions gallery, a 141-seat auditorium, a 6,000 SF special events rental space, a double height lobby with water feature, store, caf--, education classrooms, over 200 covered parking spaces, on-site collection storage, administrative offices, and back of house service facilities. Planned programming includes special exhibitions in a variety of genres including artist talks and demonstrations, art classes, lectures, performances, docent-led tours, and a variety of activities for children and families.

*PRIMARY FUNCTION*

Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Operations, the Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness, care, and appearance of the museum.

*DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*

* Clean and maintain all visitor and public spaces, exhibit galleries, staff offices, meeting rooms, hallways, snack and common areas, boardroom, stairs, and elevators.
* Clean all windows, doors, mirrors, tables, walls, partitions, woodwork, metal work, and drinking fountains.
* Vacuum all carpeted areas.
* Sweep and mop tiled floors, strip, wax, and polish floors as directed.
* Clean and service all restrooms, sanitize toilet bowls, sinks and countertops, and replenish hand soap, toilet rolls, and paper towel dispensers.
* Dust railings, fans, window blinds, and light fixtures.
* Spot clean spills on carpets and tile floors.
* Remove trash and replace plastic liners in all trash receptacles.
* Pick up litter and other debris throughout the Museum facility, grounds, and parking areas.
* Clean and maintain all outdoor areas.
* Set up, arrange, and remove tables, chairs, and decorations to prepare Museum rooms for meetings, special events, and private functions.
* Properly requisition adequate cleaning supplies and equipment needed to complete jobs.
* Mix water and cleaning solutions according to product specifications.
* Maintain records as required.
* Promptly report maintenance concerns, issues, or potential safety hazards to the Manager of Facilities & Operations.
* Assist Facilities/Security Departments in certain projects as a team especially from the safety standpoint.

*SKILLS & EXPERIENCE*

Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and maintenance skills.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures used in housekeeping and building maintenance. Follow all Safety Data Sheets per manufacturers recommendations for the proper use of chemicals and equipment. SDS binder can be found in security command office for everyone's use.

Familiarity with materials, chemicals, supplies, and equipment used to clean offices and public buildings in an efficient and economical manner.

Self-motivated with a pleasant, positive and helpful attitude.

Willingness to perform a variety of custodial-related tasks.

Effective communication skills and the ability to provide courteous assistance to visitors, staff, and volunteers.

Skill in cleaning, waxing, and buffing tiled floors to maintain a professional condition and appearance.

Ability to exercise proper care and precautions not to mar or otherwise damage Museum furnishings, exhibit cases, artwork, or interpretive panels.

Ability to handle chemical products, soaps, and cleaning agents in a safe and responsible manner.

Ability to independently operate standard cleaning, moving, and maintenance equipment, such as a floor buffer, ladder, vacuum cleaner, hand truck, and pallet jack.

Ability to comply with all Museum policies, procedures, and safety rules.

Ability to follow instructions and adhere to schedules and assignments.

Ability to exercise care and good judgment in performing assigned duties.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work alone without close supervision.

Ability to learn special or specific methods of cleaning the Museum facilities and exhibit cases.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, including split shifts.

*SCHEDULE/WORK ENVIRONMENT*

Up to 29 hours per week to start. Could be more or less depending on the number of events booked. This position starts as Part-Time but could lead into a Full-Time position.

Non-standard hours occasionally to accommodate special events.

Cross training available for conversion/setup of event spaces and facilities responsibilities.

Typical hours are 8am-12pm daily but could change weekly.

*ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS*

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background and reference check.

Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
