swim programs at the Speer YMCA. Job Description The Aquatics
Director is responsible for ensuring a safe, high-quality aquatic
experience for all swimmers at the Speer YMCA branch. This position
oversees the hiring, training, certification, and ongoing
development of aquatic staff. The Aquatics Director also leads the
development, expansion, and growth of aquatic programs while
supporting membership and participation goals. The Outdoor Aquatics
Center includes: • 8-lane, 25-yard lap pool • Warm-water teaching
pool • Splash pad Qualifications • Bachelors degree in a related
field or equivalent experience • Minimum of two years of related
experience preferred (Aquatics Coordinator, Supervisor, or similar
leadership role) • Current trainer-level certifications in
Lifeguarding, Swim Instruction, CPR-Pro, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen
Administration required • Additional YMCA aquatic certifications
preferred • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the
ability to work effectively with diverse populations • Strong
organizational, planning, and leadership skills • Ability to
operate standard office, computer, and aquatic equipment • Ability
to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities •
Physical ability to stand or sit for extended periods and maintain
awareness of swimmer safety Essential Functions Direct and
administer total operation of the Aquatics Department for assigned
branch including the interpretation and execution of established
policies, the development of procedures and methods, staffing,
evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs and operation.
Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs aquatics
personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff
performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve
goals. Ensures all aquatic staff are in compliance with YMCA
certifications as required by YUSA and association policies. Trains
and supervises lifeguards to certification standards. Monitors
daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health
and safety regulations. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and
evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Works
in conjunction with Facilities Director to ensure proper
maintenance of pool. Secures and schedules pool facilities.
Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility
maintenance. Holds in-service trainings with aquatic staff as
requested by branch leadership and as required by association
aquatic policies. Coordinates the Association aquatic trainings
including CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor,
Annual Association Lifeguard training, etc. in collaboration with
Human Resources. Responds to all member and community inquiries and
complaints in timely manner. Plans and conducts a wide variety of
aquatic programs and activities that maximize the facilities,
support the Cause and enhance membership. Creates and schedules
swim classes and water fitness classes. Represents and promotes the
YMCA in the local community and develops positive working
relationships with other organizations, businesses, and
governmental entities. Develops and monitors program budget to meet
fiscal objectives. Keeps Association staff up to date with Y-USA
and other Aquatic alerts and recommendations as well as collecting
and reviewing aquatic best practices. Participate as required by
branch leadership in MOD building coverage Assists in YMCA fund
raising activities and special events.
