Job Description:

OverviewUPC Insurance seeks to be the premier provider of property insurance in catastrophe exposed areas. The Actuary is a key position that provides support to the Finance and other functional areas by timely and insightful actuarial analyses. The Actuary will work closely with the Chief Actuarial Officer (CAO) to further the company's goals of performing actuarial functions internally.

The Actuary will be involved in aiding the CAO in developing a foundation of internal capabilities as quickly and prudently as possible without compromising the accuracy and timeliness of these services. The main functional areas which the Actuary will be involved in are Pricing and Data Management. Additional areas of opportunity include Reserving, Risk Transfer analysis, Exposure Management, and Predictive Analytics.

  • Pricing/Rate Indications




    • Support Product Management team through timely and efficient analysis of indicated rate levels for the company's various products
    • Support the CAO in developing an efficient and repeatable quarterly process for providing product team with insights into trends affecting indications
    • Research and analyze competitive landscape and industry trends
    • Monitor emerging regulations/issues with analysis of their potential pricing and reserving impacts



    • Data Management




      • Support the actuarial team by partnering with IT and Data teams to build effective solutions for processing data from multiple sources
      • Monitors company data and the impact of changes to data on the actuarial team
      • Organize and analyze large volumes of data, ensuring integrity and accuracy
      • Monitor processes regarding raters and competitor analysis

          • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to manage demanding engagements
          • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and strong quantitative, analytical and interpersonal skills

          • Ability to work with limited direction and seek guidance when appropriate
          • Organized and capable of working on multiple projects
          • Strong attention to detail
          • Proficiency with Excel and Access
          • Strong technical knowledge including programming experience (e.g. SAS, R, VBA)

            Education and/or Experience:



            • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance or a related quantitative discipline
            • ACAS or FCAS credentials
